UCO establishes scholarship in honor of OSU crash victim

The global students at UCO are planning another vigil for Nikita Nakal this Friday on campus.
“It is incredible to see the support from the people of Oklahoma”.
The police report said the woman driving the auto was arrested on the scene and charged with driving under the influence.
Four people were killed and 47 were injured Saturday when a vehicle crashed into a police auto and then into an area where spectators were watching the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade.
The University of Central Oklahoma announced that one of those killed was Nikita Nakal, an M.B.A. student at Central Oklahoma from Mumbai, India. “We hope that this scholarship will provide other students, for decades to come, the chance to pursue their dream of an MBA here at Central”, said Ethan Waples, director of graduate programs for the UCO College of Business. While we mourn the potential unrealized, let us also honor her life by pulling closer and appreciating the strength of our Broncho family.
Police say five people who were badly injured when a auto crashed into the crowd at the Oklahoma State homecoming parade remain in critical condition. “She doesn’t remember a whole lot about what happened”, attorney Tony Coleman told reporters.
Her attorney said at a press conference that he believes she suffers from a mental illness but doesn’t think she had been drinking.
“I have deep concerns about her competency at this point”.
Nakal had earned her Bachelor of Commerce degree from Mumbai University, and was attending UCO in the hopes of becoming a financial analyst.

Book Releasing Ceremony of Prin. Dr. M. S. Kurhade

The Book Releasing Ceremony was held on 17th of October 2015 for the book "Locke-Leibniz Controversies: Some Problems" written by Principal Dr. M. S. Kurhade, the welknown authority in the field of Education and Philosophy.

     

The inauguration was done by none other than the versatile personality Dr. Sanjay Deshmukh, Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai. 

 

 

     

Many dignitaries from the Education field were present. All the Management members also were present on this occasion of pride. 

  

For Kalam’s birth anniversary, Mumbai schoolkids drop bag, read books instead

 

 

 

 

MUMBAI: Schools in the state commemorated former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam's birth anniversary on Thursday, by celebrating it as 'Vaachan Prerna Diwas' (Inspiration to Read Day).

Various reading activities were organised for students. While Mumbai took it a step ahead and made it a No School Bag Day, senior classes at schools had to take oral or practical exams between activities.

At HVB Global Academy, Marine Drive, students dedicated the day to reading Kalam'sbooks and viewed films depicting his life. At Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri, students began their day by interacting with the editor of a regional daily newspaper.

Some schools also clubbed in an educational tour for young students. "Since Dr. Kalam was a scientist in the truest sense of the word, our students from Class I to V went on a field trip to Nehru Planetarium and the science park," said Madhura Phadke, principal, Pawar Public School, Chandivli. Celebrations are ongoing at the J D Bharda High School, Grant Road, with the school attempting to enter the Limca Books of World Records for a 24-hour reading relay.

The school staff and boy students are camping in school overnight. At Alexandra Girls Institution, Fort, exams for the day were cancelled to make way for book exhibitions, poster making and magazine-making sessions. To align itself with the Skill India Mission of the prime minister, Mumbai University launched an initiative titled 'Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Vidyaadhaarit Kaushalya-Vikaas Setu', under the umbrella of the National Service Scheme (NSS) on Thursday, to reach out to the weaker sections of the neighbourhood through knowledge-sharing and development of soft skills.

Digital India Week

1st July 2015 to 7th July 2015

Digital India Week will be inaugurated on 1st July 2015 at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM by Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modiji.

The first Supercomputer of India PARAM 8000 (made by C-DAC) was launched on July 01, 1991. This date therefore represents a major milestone in the history of Advanced Computing in India.

C-DAC products such as e-Basta and e-Sign will also be launched during the inauguration of Digital India Week.

• e-Basta: under Digital India initiative, the Government haslaunched a platform that extends may help Indian school students tremendously.Aptly called eBasta (Bastameans school bag in Hindi), this new platform was unveiled today by theGovernment that will provide digital and eBook versions of school books andother study material to school students through-out India.
• e-Sign: It provides an on-line service to citizens for instant signing of their documents securely in a legally acceptable form.

C-DAC Centres are also carrying out activities which include in-house awareness campaign, media briefing, presentation and exhibition of various products, visits to C-DAC by school children and other scientific institutions for appraising themselves about various R&D being carried out in centres.

‘A Taste of Spring’ at Guildhall Library

Oriel Librarian Celebrates Mrs Beeton with ‘A Taste of Spring’ at Guildhall Library

College Librarian Marjory Szurko recently laid on an ‘edible exhibition’ for a special event at London’s Guildhall Library celebrating famous 19th century English food writer Mrs Beeton. The event was part of the Guildhall Library’s exhibition, Celebrity Cooks: Mrs Beeton and her Contemporaries, which commemorated the 150th anniversary of Mrs Beeton’s death.

 

Marjory has a keen interest in historical recipes. She has hosted six Edible Exhibitions already at Oriel, and has been known to bake cakes to tie in with events within College, such as the recent chapel re-opening. Although Oriel only boasts one small recipe book bequeathed by Orielensis Stephen Furness, which inspired Marjory to create the Edible Exhibitions in the first place, she takes her recipes from many sources, such as those published by the Early English Text Society.

 

For the ‘Taste of Spring’ event, Marjory baked sweet dishes from the 14th-19th centuries, 

culminating in a magnificent 19th century style meringue centrepiece in the shape of a 

pagoda (photo).

 

The pagoda paid homage to 19th century chef Alexis Soyer who wrote a recipe for Meringue Pagodatique à la Chinoise. Marjory’s pagoda was set in a landscape of gingerbread, marzipan and icing, with a jelly pool and pine nut fish.

 

For all the dishes, Marjory illustrated the period they came from and talked about how they developed throughout the centuries. The event was a great success, and included at least one Orielensis in the audience!
